Some paintings do not demand attention. They simply possess it.
Présence emerged from a search for stillness, essence and quiet strength. Built through countless layers of translucent and opaque paint, the portrait gradually reveals and conceals itself, creating a subtle interplay of depth, texture and light.
The gaze remains open yet elusive. Loose brushstrokes and soft transitions invite interpretation rather than explanation. Existing somewhere between abstraction and figuration, the painting feels familiar while remaining intentionally undefined.
A restrained palette of grey, taupe, sand and off-white gives the work a timeless quality. Depending on the surrounding light and viewing distance, new details continue to emerge, encouraging repeated discovery.
Like much of my work, this painting is not intended to portray a specific individual. Instead, it reflects a state of being — a quiet moment of presence, awareness and connection.
